Play Therapy

Play is the child’s natural medium for self-experience.” - Virginia Axline (1989), founder of child-centered play therapy

Play therapy is a powerful means of joining with the innate, creative, non-verbal capacities of children in order to engage and work therapeutically with them. It is a developmentally appropriate, evidence-based method of counselling younger clients. In play therapy, children can play out, literally and/or metaphorically, their inner and real-life experiences in a way that builds insight and capacity. Play therapy allows children to express, regulate, communicate, practice and master new skills as well as their emotional responses.

Parent Coaching

Our coaching and advice focus on practical ways to be a better parent through reflection, open communication, planning and an open solution-focused lens. This can include phone and online sessions. Being a parent isn't always easy, and it doesn't always come naturally. Our Neurodiversity can make meeting everyone in the family’s needs very difficult. It’s OK to get support and advice on how to parent and create the safe and nurturing environments children deserve, and a positive environment for the whole family. Our parenting, early years and mental health services build skills for those who want to develop stronger relationships with their children and enjoy raising their children despite the challenges we face.

Counselling

Professional counselling is a professional relationship that empowers diverse individuals, families, and groups to accomplish mental health, wellness, education, and career goals. Counsellors work with you on strategies to overcome obstacles and personal challenges that they are facing. Counselling can help by allowing a very safe and private space for you to talk about issues and problems. These are problems that you may find difficult to talk to other people about because they feel very private. It may feel unsafe or uncomfortable to talk to your normal support network, friends or loved ones. Our professional counsellors are trained and registered and will provide you with a genuine, caring and empathic response to your problems.

Art Therapy

Art therapy is used to help patients interpret, express, and resolve their emotions and thoughts. Clients work with an art therapist to explore their emotions, understand conflicts or feelings that are causing them distress, and use the process to help them find resolutions to those issues. The underlying concept is that through the gentle process of art therapy clients who have experienced trauma, grief, and severe stress can reduce healing time and emerge with a valuable new perspective. Artistic expression is good for mental health. Art Therapy is a gentle therapeutic approach and ideal for neurodiverse clients and those who struggle with communication or who would just rather express their emotions through this beautiful therapeutic method.

Pediatric Occupational Therapy

Pediatric Occupational Therapy empowers children to thrive by addressing developmental, physical, and sensory challenges through tailored, play-based interventions. Our therapists create a safe and engaging environment where children develop essential skills for daily life, including fine and gross motor coordination, sensory regulation, emotional management, and social interaction. We work with children with neurodevelopmental disorders like autism and ADHD, or physical disabilities, sensory processing difficulties, developmental delay or challenges. We aim to foster their independence and confidence. By focusing on fun and creative activities, we support each child's unique needs, promoting neurodevelopmental growth and enabling them to participate fully in their lives at home, school, and in the community.

Psycho-social Occupational Therapy

At Creative Therapy Village, we provide psycho-social occupational therapy for young people and adults aged 15-25 with mental health or other challenges in life such as difficulties that arise due to our neurodivergence. We want to help you and your family to live your best lives and will work with you towards that ideal.

Psycho-social occupational therapists help people with mental health conditions develop coping skills and strategies, and build resilience and self-esteem so they can perform daily activities they need or want to do. They can also help people to set and achieve meaningful goals.

Occupational Therapists believe that a person’s sense of self and well-being is influenced by the things they do that are important and meaningful to them.   Mental health difficulties may affect a person’s ability to take care of oneself (and others), work, study, or participate in leisure and social activities.
